Anthropologie Customer Service

I received a call from Anthropologie customer service today regarding the Soft Focus dress mishap (See previous posts). The rep apologized for not getting in touch with me sooner and told me that they investigated the matter and found that I wasn't delusional.
They will update the picture on Anthropologie.com to show the new version of the dress. In the mean time I was issued a full refund, including the shipping charges. She also told me that a $30 coupon was mailed out to me as a compensation for my trouble.
Ok, I have to admit I am now pacified. That is what I call Customer Service. It helps to know your favorite store cares about it's customers. So, Anthropologie, we're back in business! It's just as well, since my wedding anniversary is coming up in December and where else would I send my husband to shop for my gift but Anthropologie?

Audrey Hepburn

Given the name of this blog, some of you might have guessed I'm an Audrey Hepburn fan. She was an interesting and unique fusion of good looks, girlie charm and lady-like sophistication. Her trademark style still fascinates and captivates. My favorite movies with Audrey are Roman Holiday and (surprise surprise) Breakfast at Tiffany's.
I was very excited to find a coffee table book on her in Anthropologie, called Audrey Hepburn: A Life In Pictures. This is how Anthropologie describes the book : "Movie star, fashion icon, humanitarian - the many faces of Audrey Hepburn have been captured in this volume, with more than 160 photos from her life and work, paired with quotes from her colleagues, friends and Ms. Hepburn herself. "
The photos bellow were not taken from the book, but I wanted to put them up because they're so beautiful.

Gifts for Kids

icon
Here is proof that beautiful gifts don't have to be expensive.
I've recently discovered limited edition pop-up books by Mathew Reinhart and I'm addicted! These books are absolutely magical. Forget the kids, I couldn't tear myself away from Reinhart's Cinderella book. The pop-ups aren't like anything I've seen before. There are layers upon layers of animated cardboard with very detailed beautiful illustrations. The mice get transformed into horses before your very eyes, a castle grows out of a page, and the dancers at the ball spin around. These books will hold a child's attention and develop a child's imagination. The craftsmanship is just awe inspiring.
Among the available titles are The Jungle Book, Cinderella, Star Wars, Castle, and a series of Encyclopedias (Mega Beasts, Dinosaurs, Sharks and other Sea Monsters, Mythologica). The Pop-up Book of Phobias would make an amusing gift for an older child or an adult.
Some of these books are available at a discounted price from Overstock.com

Kudos to Anthropologie

What a great idea to make tin mugs for kids. Thank you Anthropologie!
My two toddlers used to drink out of plastic cups from Target. However, recently a lot of health concerns have been raised in using plastic for food due to the chemicals used in production of certain plastics. Since I don't trust my toddlers with glass and I'm concerned about plastic, these Anthropologie cups are a God-send. They are made out of enamel covered tin and painted with non-toxic paint. Besides for being safe for kids these cups are extremely sturdy not like the plastic cups that used to constantly tip over. These mugs fit into little hands perfectly and are so cute!

Calling All Anthropologie Shoppers

I really like the color and the flower applique of this blazer, but the sleeves look plain weird to me.
No Anthropologie store in New York has this blazer in stock, so trying it on is not an option.
Is there anyone out there who owns or has tried on the Anthropologie Fainting Sofa Blazer?
I would love to see a picture of a person wearing it, or at least hear some feedback on it. I want to know if this blazer runs true to size? Anthropologie seems to have a pretty wide swing in size measurements. I have three Anthropologie jackets; one in size 0, one in size 2 and one in size 4. It's annoying that there's no consistency in sizes. Also I want to know the length of the sleeves. I wonder if I can have them reconstructed to look a little more "In this Era". If anyone has any information on this blazer, please post it. Thanks!

Soft Focus Dress Further Discounted

Well, it seems that due to the "Bait-and-switch" that Anthropologie pulled with the Soft Focus Dress (See my previous post on the subject), the dress is not selling too well. It was further discounted, selling now for $69.95 . All sizes are still available.
I actually saw the original on the discount rack in the store yesterday and I do like it much better than this new version. The lace looks more appealing and the dress is longer which makes a difference to me. Too bad they had only one left and it wasn't my size.

Lttle Girls Down Coat - One Day Sale

This is the best down coat I've found for little girls. I bought this coat for my daughter a year ago for $105 in a local kid's store and found it to be a great investment. It's extremely warm (Down filled) and reversible from pink to brown. It's also available in sky blue. I've looked at down coats for little girls at Gap and other stores and couldn't find one that was as warm and as nice. It is now on sale at Garnet Hill for $64. I think I'll get my daughter a bigger size to wear next year.

Photography

Since I love photography, make my living as a photographer and everything in the world is divided to me into two categories: photogenic and unphotogenic, I will be talking a lot about photography on this blog.

I am quite impressed with the quality of photography in Anthropologie catalogs. The pictures in these catalogs are not only intended to make the clothes appear attractive the way most catalogs do. The images work together in weaving a story, evoking a sense of nostalgia of a time and a place we haven't actually experienced (Anthropologieville?). Usually each section of the catalog depicts only one model, making her the main character in the story. The lighting effects such as over and underexposure, sun flare, etc. lend an artful quality to the images.

With a few scary exceptions, I like the models that appear in Anthropologie catalogs. Mostly because they resemble real people (just slightly more attractive) as apposed to genetically produced and enhanced mannequins. They float through the pages of the catalogs with dreamy expressions on their faces, wearing off their perfect Anthropologie wedges on the cobblestones of European towns.

Ahh, sometimes I wonder why an experience of buying an Anthropologie skirt doesn't instantly transport me to an artsy village (Is artsy village an oxymoron?) somewhere over the rainbow, so that I can walk hand in hand with a gorgeous shepherd boy and eat cheese off a golden platter, but that's a whole other blog entry.

Velvet Mary Jane

Shimmering Mary Janes

These beautiful velvet Mary Janes are available in three colors at Soft Surroundings for $98.00. Anthropologie sells these very same shoes for $118.00 and only carries one color.
Feel free to drop a "Thank You" in my comments box for saving you $20.

My Gift Ideas

Since everyone seems to be in the buying spirit (Maybe because the weather in NY finally caught up with the season) and I found Anthropologie GIVING catalog to be unusually lame, I've decided to compile my own list of great gift ideas from Anthropologie. Of course tastes differ and I may just be in my own little world, who knows, but then again this is my blog and I put up what I like.
I think this is really a list of all the things I'd like to own from Anthropologie (If you know what I mean).

I got this Toile apron and I love it so much, I actually don't mind being in the kitchen.

Is This the Anthropologie Soft Focus Dress?

Well I'd like some ketchup with that foot. Here I was blah blah blahing about how wonderful the Soft Focus Dress was. It was delivered to me today. What can I say, I expected a peach and what did I get? A LEMON! The downside of shopping on the Internet or from catalogs is the possibility of items not fitting well or being misrepresented in pictures. However this was never the case with Anthropologie items... until now.
I took some pictures of the dress I received to show the very obvious differences from the Anthropologie web site pictures. As you can see, the lace on the dress I was sent looks completely different from what Anthropologie.com shows. In addition to this inconsistency, the lace has a rather "Wallmart" feel to it. The color of the dress is also darker and duller than it appears on the web site. There's also a discrepancy in the measurements. The dress actually measures 36 inches from shoulder and not 39.5 as specified. That's a 3.5 inch difference! The quality of the embroidery leaves much do be desired.
Ahhh how it saddens me to be disappointed in Anthropologie. Where is the love?

I called customer service and the "friendly" rep told me based on the item # that the dress I received IS in fact the Soft Focus dress. Really? Well it would have been nice if they updated the picture on their web site. She didn't have the actual dress to look at and compare, so of course she had no idea what I was complaining about. "They will do a quality control check at the warehouse" was the only solution she could offer me. I'm just wondering how did quality controll miss this in the first place.

Anthropologie Shopper

According to Wikipedia, Anthropologie is meant to appeal to 25-45 year old affluent women with an annual income of $200,000 or higher. The Anthropologie customer is sophisticated, worldly, professional, well read, and well-traveled . She's also relatively fit.
Men, take note: this is where the "cream of the crop" ladies congregate. If you're looking to meet a woman possessing of the above qualities, consider coolly strolling into an Anthropologie store.

Giving

'Tis the season to celebrate the great American tradition of GIVING to the retail industry and to worship on the alter of consumerism. Our very own Anthropologie has put out their annual, much anticipated GIVING catalog, full of charmingly useless and overpriced items. I don't know about you, but I hope to be the one receiving.

The Corsage Sweater on the front cover is a stunner, but may be a tad intimidating to those who might attempt to hug you. I would choose hugs over glamor any day.

I like these perfume bottles. They will make a nice gift and will look beautiful as a room accessory, displayed on a vanity table or dresser.

Anthropologie Soft Focus Dress

Hurray! It's on SALE!

I have never seen anything as lovely as the Anthropologie Soft Focus Dress. Every detail from the lace to the silk ribbon to the embroidery at the bottom is so perfect it gives me the shivers. The quality and attention to detail is reminiscent of a bygone era. Who wouldn't feel like the embodiment of femininity in this dress?
The Soft Focus dress was a little hard on my wallet at the original price of $298. Luckily all good things come to those who wait. I have purchased it from www.Anthropologie.com for a very reasonable price of $149.95. All sizes are still available, but hurry because this heirloom quality dress will not be around for long.

Why Anthropologie?

It's not just about the clothes. The clothes are secondary. It's the atmosphere in the store that is a balm to my nerves and nourishment to my senses. When I walk into Anthropologie all my stress seems to melt away. I wander the aisles of the store as I would paths in a garden . If I could start every day by having breakfast in Anthropologie while leafing through one of their coffee table books, my days would be much more serene.
